What is your crunch time, got to have it and has to be right cause we only get one shot, camera. Mine is the venerable Canon A1. I have been shooting with this camera since the day I walked into Bob Sales camera and saw the first one in N La. When I take it out I know it so well I know what it will produce in any given situation. Any of you have a camera you feel the same way, about?

Shoot everyone knows I always wanted a Nikon F but circumstances. at that Time the USN was using Canon, and the pay a lowly E3 made in the early seventies made my choice. I only kid about the Nikons.

I think I am getting tired of answering Canon T90 to every question about my photography but that is IT.
It is no longer a piece of equipment. It is an extension of my mind and hands. It will do virtually anything I could ask of a camera and it never lets me down. After using it for 21 years I have grown rather fond of the beautiful old thing.
I am, however, ashamed to admit that I have been less than faithful to it lately. I have been using a digital Fujifilm 3800 which I do not even like, let alone love. It is too easy.

Although now, thanks to Ron Herron, I am probably most fond of Mamiya's................the exact way you worded the question.....makes me respond with this : Konica T3.
Know it so well, have been using them so long, know exactly what it will do in any circumstance, can count on it without question and is tank-like strong. It never disappoints me. So, my answer has to be a Konica T3.

Although the question was asked in the SLR section, my answer is Leica M2. No other camera I own is even close!

Bit of a pattern developing here... !!
So far there's a definite preference for 1970's (ish) mechanicals. You don't think that might be saying something about the age of the members here do you??
I'll go along with the theme and plump for the Praktica MTL5B. On the occasions when I manage to do everything right, the sheer simple quality of the pictures it takes always surprises me.

Regards - John I have quite a few SLRs with automatic features, I just don't trust them for a situation when I just have to have the shot. I've lost good shots because the Automatic decided the lighting wasn't right and nothing happens when I click the shutter. I prefer a manual camera when I only have one in the bag. |

Before Christmas, when my son and his wife gave me a Canon T70, I would have said Canon A1 without a moment's hesitation. I've got two which served me faithfully for years. But since I've had the T70 I use it more and more, and the old failthful A1s look down at me from the shelf with a sad sort of look in their lenses as if to say 'Please take us out to make some pictures'  . Peter,
I've heard you talk of the T70 before, in much the same way as I do about the Yashica 230AF. So I thought OK then, wasn't going to get another Canon (I need to try a Nikon at some stage, in a spirit of even-handedness you understand...), but a T70 came up on eBay without anyone showing much interest.
I carefully honed my strategy, which consisted of banging in a bid in the last ten seconds, and went for it. Typed in the amount, clicked on the bid now button and nothing happened. Number lock was off. Why do they still have a number lock on full keyboards??. Missed the end of the auction, which closed with no bidders.
Oh well. I haven't got a Ricoh 401 or a Chinon yet anyway.... !!

Watching one of them now as a re-listing. Tried what you suggested once, but the seller had re-listed it with a lower start price. Won it the second time for less than I'd offered. In fairness, I offered to send what I'd originally offered to buy it for, but he said I'd won it fair and square. Fair play to him.
