Hi ! Today early in the morning you had been able to watch the “Venus transit”, when Venus crossed the orbit of the sun here in Austria for about 2 hours. The next transit will be visible in the year 2117. So I took this opportunity to get some pictures. In default of having a special filter I took a piece of a rescue-foil ( double folded ) from the first-aid-kit of my car and fixed it beneath lens and UV-filter. Then I took some snapshots (1/100sec f16 200ASA ) during sunrise on my way to work at 5 am. Except for some reflexions, due to unavoidable folds in the foil, I think the result is not too bad. Has anyone else watched, or pictured this event ? Or are you still sleeping at 5 am ? MIK

MIK,
I missed it due to the unforeseeable unforeseen.
My son saw it and said it looked like a dark mole. He was not impressed.
I am impressed by the ingenuity you used to get those images.

Nice cloud here, so didn't bother looking.
addendum: I did put more on this entry just after I first posted it, but it doesn't seem to have appeared. In brief:
MIK, are you sure it wasn't a small insect or spider wandering across the sensor. A good bit of enginuity there, using bits from a car.

Hi Mik! Very cool photos, and a clever way to capture them! We had rain and plenty of clouds. Venus hid from them BTW has anyone out there ever read E.R.Burroughs "Carson of Venus" series? Very cool stuff. Doug

Yes it is! He wrote science fiction before he wrote "Tarzan". Not many people know that.
