New toy! This came as a gift, with a big bag of goodies. Several lenses, filters, even a kit of HOYAREX sqare filters. All the gear is 95% fine or better. It is a shooter, for sure. My plan to collect nothing but Minolta gear is now even further off track LOL.

Good find, enjoy. D'ont worry, I was suppose to concentrate on one brand 50 years ago, since then I have collected cameras of several manufacturers and now, I'm completely off track, anything that takes my fancy, cameras, that is. Regards,
Hye

Hye,
The AE-1 is an excellent camera.
Mine is rather human as it sneezes when I press the shutter button. Very endearing.

I just learned about AE1 squeal. I'd been using the noisy motor winder but when I fired the bare camera it sounding like someone stepping on a cat. I just got everything put back together, it's quiet now. You can get to the little flywheel geartrain from the bottom. I used a new syringe and long needle from my ink refilling kit and a bit of Outers gun oil.

A while back, I was gifted with a pair of AE-1 Program cameras, along with a bunch of lenses. One has the squeal, the other does not. I haven't had time to shoot them, due to too many other projects, but they seem to be very good cameras.

The part that squeals is on the outside of the mirror box sort of behind the battery. You can't really see it unless you pull the lens mount off but if you feel lucky it's not hard to get a drop of oil in there. If it's squealing it's wearing out fast. There is a lot of info on the net, top entry, bottom entry and take the whole thing apart are the choices. I just let the oil seep from the end of the needle, not much but it cured the noise problem.

Mickey,
I'm sure it is, mentioned earlier, sort of stayed away from Canon all these years until I got hold of a FTBn earlier this year and got to know Canons, they are second to none.
Tapping on your knowledge of Canons, what do you think of the EF, considering this one as my next project, Regards

Mickey, Tapping on your knowledge of Canons, what do you think of the EF, considering this one as my next project, Regards Hye Hye, I don't have an EF nor have I ever seen one so I can only be guided by what the catalogues say. According to McKeowns it was intended to be a professional camera but lacked provision for autowinder. It sounds like a very well conceived camera with excellent features. McKeowns 12th edition, Page 181. I would like to get hold of one. Mickey

Have not seen one either Mickey, came across it when I recently purchased a 2nd hand book, Canon Modern Classics by Hove, apart from the description of the utilisation of the camera, no proper evaluation of it.
What I notice is that its a camera that is very seldom seen on the 2nd hand market, perhaps a short production run, possibly because AE-1 came after it and became Canon's best seller, same case as the Nikon FT3 after they released the FM.
I would like to get hold of one as well, Regards

Hye,
The EF was produced between 1973 and 1978. That is a pretty good run. I wonder why so few are seen. Perhaps its so treasured by its owners that they are reluctant to give it up.

Mickey,
I will be looking hard for one now, my best bet will probably be a trip to Toulouse, my village is in the middle of French agricultural country.
I now shy away from internet purchase, two weeks ago I bought some books from Amazon and last week my bank contacted me to tell me that they have blocked my card because someone was trying to place a big order with my card details. Good thing the bank smell a rat. That was the only time I bought through the net so be careful because even Amazon is not a safe place.
The bank will issue me with a new card.
Curt, I will not be able to catch you up because I will only get one, now that you mention about the F1, you are getting me all worked up, but first the EF.
Regards to you both
Hye
