Mickey
Same to you. The weather looks good here and I even managed to find the flag in the basement to put out for the occasion. This year also marks the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 whose outcome makes celebrating our 145 birthday possible. Kind of a double header day.

So that's why Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky wrote The Year 1812, Festival Overture in E flat major, Op. 49.....and I thought it had something to do with Napoleon.
With it falling on a Sunday, does the Monday become a bank holiday?
Anyway, enjoy the day.

The 1812 Overture celebrated the defeat of Napoleon by the Russians. Hitler copied Old Boney 133 years later. So it can be considered a double celebration but the Canada/USA war had nothing to do with it. Tchaikovsky didn't think much of his composition. I guess he was a poor judge of music.

Thou shalt surely celebrate on the following Monday unless Monday too is a holiday. Then Tuesday shall be your good news day." Mickey

Happy day. Here in Western Australia, we have a Foundation Day public holiday. At least we did have until this year, when the state government decided to change the name to Western Australia Day. Bloody pollies! They never ask the people. Out of sheer perversity I shall continue to refer to it as Foundation Day. www.timeanddate.com/holidays/australia/foundation-day
