Hi! I picked up another rangefinder today. I paid 9 USD for it. I had one of these a few years back, and was impressed with how sharp a lens it has. I'm going to start looking for the cameras that I've used and enjoyed over the years. So far, I've found three. This one, a Brownie Bullet, and a Ricoh ff-1s Doug

Nice buy, the Canonet GIII was the last of the series and had a re-designed lens of slightly higher quality, but they were never poor on the earlier models. Sharpest at at least F4, they were popular for colour slide work on Holidays and Travel. Unlike some other automatics, they will work without batteries manually, which is needed as the PX 625 is no longer made, although other batteries will fit. The Quick load system works well. A bit light on weight compared to earlier Canons, but has a well built feel to it. Stephen.

Hans,
They certainly made quite a few different versions of these. It would be fun to put together a collection of Canonets, don't you think?

Good idea Doug, let's invite the other members to produce different ones. How many variations would that be? 5, 10, 15?? Hans

Canon show 13 variants, I suspect a few more, as special market versions of nearly all makes were made. Canon made fewer specials than most makers, the smaller makers made most "Shop brand" versions as they were so eager for sales. Bigger makers had a name to defend, and did not offer under other names, preferring to add a distributors name to the makers names, such as Rank Mamiya in the UK. Stephen.

No QL here, just the original Canonet. Excellent camera BTW, with which I took all my pictures on my trip to Europe last year ... and no batteries, as I like it Canonet 1961 by bokuwanihongasuki, on Flickr
