Hi All! I don't have time to do much now, but today at the flea market (last time indoors) I bought two very nice rangefinders. The one is a GAF Memo35, the other an original Konica 1 from the early fifties. The dealer wanted 60 for both, I said 20, and ended up with both for 30 .The Konica is REALLY nice, and came with most of the case. Serial number on the body is 55985. I've got to run, but will get some photos up in the morning. Doug

Hi All! After spending a couple of days painting the living room, I've finally got some time to catch up on things. Here are some photos of the Konica I purchsed. It's a keeper and I don't think that the case is original to the camera, it's marked made in occupied Japan, whereas the camera is marked made in Japan. The place it's marked also helps date it. I can't wait to get some film in it and give it a try! Doug

That's a real beauty. One for the "Win" column.

Nice condition, I have the next model, but in bad condition, a real mess externally, but does work. Not common in UK, they came from the import restriction period. Stephen.

A lovely clean design. I have no Konica's but I'm looking after seeing this one. Ciao! David

That is one sweet looking camera and using it will give you a nice change of pace from painting. Have fun with it.

Is it a collapsible lens on the Konica?

Hi Truls,
Yes, it is a collapsible lens. I also found an old Kodak Series VI filter holder with a quite a few filters in one of my parts boxes that fits perfectly.

These are excellent cameras. The film advance knob can be a bit tight on some of these cameras. You'll enjoy shooting with it.
You have one that seems to be in excellent condition.
One bit of trivia: The Konica I, II and III all have six shutter blades in a five-blade configuration. One of the posts holds two blades. I don't know why.

If the shutter has six blades, then one is dualed mounted on five pivots, but I suspect the "sixth" blade has a slighly different diameter or stroke, to allow it to pivot more to be able to "cap" the closure of the other blades, so that they do not have to overlap so much to seal the light efficiently. It seems the sixth blade was pivoted the same on the Konica, but was "under" the others to ensure the centre gap did not leak light. It was always an issue on leaf shutters, and it looks like Konica seemed determined not to get any problems! Stephen.
