At the Rochester Sweeps May Festival today, a Hurdy Gurdy Man, under the College Gate arch on the approach to Rochester Cathedral. The Hurdy Gurdy is an ancient musical instrument mainly associated with France, although common across Europe. It play with keys on strings, which are "droned" by a rotating rosined wheel, controlling the rhythm and pitch of the notes. Other strings are tuned drones that are not keyed but act as a continuous accompaniment at a constant note. The Hurdy Gurdy Man.Olympus PM-1 14mm-42mm lens. Stephen.
