Bob, was this a flywheel for a powerplant? There used to be a powerplant for a trolley cars system nearby that had a flywheel like that. Talk about big wheels, the Big Wheel, ie..the plastic kids tricycle was invented here in our town.

I think you nailed it. Franklin, NH is an old mill city. It has 2 rivers running thru it. The mills or factories (of the past) if you prefer, were powered by the rivers.....so it is fitting that a flywheel from a hydro powerplant be featured as an historic marker in the center of the town.
