Here are a couple of shots of an ultralight that I was fortunate enough to have a flight in a couple of weeks ago The fellow, George, is the owner and instructor, the woman is Sylvia, a master camera repair person who does extremely good work on rare cameras, lenses and shutters, old SLRs and TLRs. I’ve had the great luck to know and have her work on a few of my cameras. Shot with an AE1-P (Provia)

Nice shots. I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to heights.

Oh my. Jules. I've flown in some pretty old string and canvas planes where you can do a Walter Mitty and pretend you're the Red Baron, but going in one of those things would scare me silly. I'd feel so exposed! At least I've always had the engine in front of me and the illusion of being protected, even if it's only by canvas . Peter

Jules: I have a "thing" about heights, too. It took me weeks to get used to riding the glass elevators to the 35th floor in my building...and extension ladders are torture devices to me. Planes, even small jets, I don't seem to have any trouble with (go figure)...but an ultralight? They look fantastic, and part of me would love it, but whether it was 500 feet or 50...I'd have to have a change of clothes to ride on one!

Late to this thread, but I got a story! The hang gliders would launch from the cliff of Barr Mtn near Sultan, Washington. I was standing 50 feet below the launch site, getting great pix as fast air supported glider wings & the gliders moved away from the mtn face. Then I moved up behind the gliders as they launched. One glider pilot ran away from me with the front of his hang glider angled down as he launched off the cliff. He dropped precipitously off the cliff. I ran up to the cliff, & caught sight of him just beginning to pull his glider out of the dive. His glider nose & his body rotated hard around, & his foot snapped thru the air, clipping off the top of one of the trees below the cliff. However, the hit didn't upset the glider & the fellow set sail away from the mtn. He had been only fractions of a second from piling into the tree & falling down the ragged mtn face. Praise God, He really took care of that fellow. Grace & peace to all readers...litesong

I just read your reply, whew! Sylvia, the student, crashed about a month ago while landing. Nothing bad happened except some embarrassment and a bent landing gear. She went on to solo and now flies as much as possible, weather permitting.
Cheers

Hi Lulalake...Yeah, them pilots......they better have God as their co-pilot or they're missing some important pre-flight equipment! We all better think that way, too. Grace & peace to you, Lulalake... litesong

This is my youngest son, Jeff. He has made almost 2000 jumps. This is ultra ultra light. At 45 years he has finally conquered his mania for falling out of airplanes. Amen. Mickey

John.
You are quite correct. I didn't take the shot although I watched Jeff skydive a number of times. He once asked me if I would like to go up and shoot the jumpers as they exited the plane. I was about to say yes when it ocurred to me that the silly plane would be flying with its door OPEN. I declined. My idea of high enough is the second rung on a stepladder.
As a birthday present my sons once bought me a flight in a hot air balloon. I loved it. Go figure?!?!
I know he is cured as he now has responsibilities. His businesses. His home. And above all his cat. Besides, his knees started to rebel.
