Hey Rick
We had a thread on here some time ago, where everyone was comparing notes on results they'd obtained with mirror lenses. The general consensus was that they were rubbish. I suspect that there may a few brought out from the back of cupboards for some more experimentation when people see this fellow.
How far away were you with this? Is this another of your stalking shots or were you in a blind? I've got a bright 300mm (not a mirror) that I must do some more experimentation to see if I can find an extender that can focus to infinity with it.
Very nice indeed.

in a blind and about 60 feet away. The Sigma is absolutely the best mirror I have ever used. The only one better is the solid glass ones made a few years back. I have also found that the farther away the background is the less you get the OOF rings. I took the mirror so if I wanted to stalk I could and use a monopod. I have to use hi-speed film andhave good light for the fixed f8

Interesting, Rick.
I have a Minolta MC 500/8.0 lens and a Nikon 500/5.6 lens. Both exhibit the OOF circles too much for my liking.
I have considered the Sigma 600/8.0 as a fairly reasonably priced way to go, but have never gotten any opinions from anyone or seen any pics taken with same lens. Your opinion is interesting, especially when you state background needs to be fairly far removed from the subject. This seems to make no difference with the two mirror lenses I have...the stupid circles always appear way too much for my liking.
