it's a follow on from the Sony A290 recognition in that the adverse reviews tended for me to treat the budget Sony very differently from my 'unaffordable' much cherished Leica M8 .
I take my time with the M8 , considering all options of exposure etc and taking care to hold it steady .
I am afraid that I would often not check the appropriate shutter speed and pushed the camera to ISO 400 which messed with the IQ , not to mention not holding it firmly .
There is a chasm of cost , quality and ultimate ability between the cameras , but every camera deserves the respect to ensure it operates at it's best . I now know it's limitations as I do with the Leica and Leica Digilux 3 , so it will be an enjoyable learning curve once more .
I guess that no-one here would make that mistake !

I agree, some cameras need or deserve a little attention, this is what sorts out the art from the snapshot. I take my time when using film, specially in the Leica or my Periflex, not just because I have only a few shots on a roll, or that its expensive and you have to make all of them count, nor because I'm using sunny 16 and need to get it right, nor is it because I have to think about filter factors. But a little of all of them.

Since my Malaysia holiday , I am no longer apologising inwardly for the basic Sony A290/A390 twins, made for just a year in mid 2010 . In some respects , aimed as beginners , they don't seem to be 'serious' DSLRs - certainly , other than pixel count , behind the opposition at the time . It appears obvious that Sony stripped out cameras with minimal size and pixel count screens , as a stop gap when developing the new fixed mirror cameras [ whatever they call them ] - and to use up remaining stocks of the 14mp CCD sensor . The build quality is lightweight plastic, adequate ,but perfectly functional . A DSLR does not rely upon a screen anyway ! I am however dee'lighted that they did as I was able to buy a new camera with a CCD sensor with outstanding colour rendition rather than used. i was also able to take advantage of the lack of interest in these cameras to find an A390 on e bay with two lenses [ knowing precisely how old it must be and strictly beginner usage only ! ] I used the A390 on holiday and became more and more comfortable with it - aided by so the simplicity of operation and light weight . Now I just have to tape up the cameras so that they could be mistaken for an expensive Canikon !! [ but that would be dee'srespectful ] LOL
