Just bought this good looking Yashica FR1. It's the Yashica version of the Contax RTS, sadly looks aren't everything as it got some issues. The shutterspeed when used on manual doesn't transfer to the meter, so no matter wich one is chosen the meter will allways read the same. In aperture priority everything works fine. The lens had dented filterthread wich i , to some extend, was able to fix. The diafragm is blocked somewhere around f16 i will have to open the lens up to see if something can be done about that. It was cheap enough not to worry about the inperfections and looks good enough to give it some attention.

One of my first buys when I started collecting was a Yashica FR1 . It was said to be in good condition - it was (mint). What I had not looked at was the lens it was the f 1.4.Nice camera. Stupidly I sold it to fund something else. The Yashica ML lenses are supposed to be better quality than the DSB versions. I now look for those.

I had some Yashica FR's to and sold them all, now with all the Contax stuff i bought i feel a bit sorry i sold the FR's i still have this 135mm 2.8 DSB lens wich i forgot to sell... Knowing little on yashica 35SLr's, can you tell me what's the difference between the ML and DSB versions?

I bought another good, working, Yashica FR 1 a few days ago with a 50mm f2 ML. Nice solid cameras. Apparently ML stands for the multi-layer coating on the glass and might be a slightly superior lens, DSB was a single layer. There are so many Yashica FX-D etc on ebay for sale that one of the things that I look for is the ML on the lens.
