Recently i came across a Nikon TC 16-A 1,6x teleconverter buried somewhere in the "adapters" drawer, nothing special exept this converter will AF any manual nikon mount lens with an aperture wider than f3.5 on most "older" AF cameras such as the F4, F601, F90... I remember it being launched in the early 80'ties in the early days of AF when Nikon didn't have much AF lenses. I've tried it and it doesn't do miracles. In the set up with a F501 it's next to imposible to use it in low light, but it works decently in "daylight" conditions, i do believe performance increases with better bodies i once was able to use it with the 500mmF8 cat on the F4, again no miracles here, the lens needed to be pre-focussed to about the distance you would be shooting, the TC16 then does the AF "fine tuning". These days the TC 16 A' s are modded for use on digital bodies, if your handy with a soldering gun you can do the mod yourselve there's several tutorials on Y-tube. Either wayi found it an interesting piece of early AF technology.

Should be nice to get some help of this device with a very long telephoto for moving subjects, if focusing time is fast enough.
I remember sweating to keep a far away yacht in focus with a 500 cat, it was a Pentax system not Nikon.
