IF YOU HAVE EITHER EXCEL OR I WORKS YOU CAN SET UP A SIMPLE SPREAD SHEET THAT WILL AT LEAST KEEP RECORDS OF THE CAMERA TYPE AND SERIAL NUMBERS. THIS WOULD AT LEAST HELP OUT THE FAMILY LATER AND IF YOU NEED IT FOR NSURANCE USING REPLACEMENT COSTS. I AM APPROACHING 200 PIECES AGAIN AND HAD TO GO BACK AND GET ALL OF THIS INTO A SPREADSHEET FORMAT. THE THING I AM LOOKING AT WITH THE DATA FILES IS TO GET SPECS AND PHYSICAL CONDITION MORE COMPLETELY DOCUMENTED. I JUST AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS REALLY OVERKILL, BUT THINK THAT I SHOULD AT LEAST DOCUMENT MY SLR'S AND "GOOD" DIGITAL CAMERAS THIS WAY. I WOULD NOT GO THROUGH ALL THIS FOR EVERYTHING SINCE THERE ARE SOME THAT REALLY DONT HAVE THE INFORMATION AVAILABLE NOR WOULD IT BE OF ANY IMPORTANCE.

This was a chance shot taken as it presented it self. I was inside and taken through a window. He was then just for a moment and did not have too much time to get it. Taken with my Nikon.

I have just gone through my collection and entering the data on all my items, serial numbers conditions and types of each one on sheets divided to manufacturer. One sheet for each one. In doing so I took a photo of each one and have them separated into files for each brand. Taking this one step further I am testing a data file for each different type of camera. (worth while, or waste of time I am not sure yet). I take pictures of 4 sides of each camera and set up a data sheet that has all the specifications on it along with the specific camera information. Serial number, condition values etc. One sheet for each camera that can be either stored in the computer in a file, on a flash drive or similar, or saved as a hard copying a loose leaf notebook. This would be valuable to identifying a specific camera similar to the one in the enclosed photo since the previous owner marked on the camera and therefore is very easy to identify without the serial number. It will also show conditions more readily for insurance values in case of loss. It is set up on word publisher but I am sure other programs can work just as well. KennB

You take everthing into consideration right from the manufacturing on through to disposal of the used cameras, There is probably very little difference over the course of the life of a camera. Personally (since I do electronic recycling for a business) I get rechargable batteries for my cameras and try to get others to do it also. It s a small step but in total can make a big difference, not only to the recycling of used batteries but to your own pocket book. Dispite what some may say batteries should not be in the landfill anymore than old computers or cameras, They just will not break down. (this goes for anything that will not break down, plastics ect.) When you get to the bolts of it, they both will be detrimental in some aspect.

The vastness is hard to comprehend. In 1973 I was going accross the Great Salt Lake pulling a trailer, when I got passed by a TBird like I was standing still. I looked at the speedometer and it was buried past 120, so I have no clue how fast I was going. You can go 120 miles an hour for hours on that stretch of road like a lot of others out there, miles of flat nothing. You dont feel speed at all when all you see is emptry space all around.

Just picked up a dandy little Canon WP-1 water proof camera. Have not tryed it out but for a buck it can be a shelf sitter. Probably needs a battery for sure. Picked up a nice Ollie for a buck at the same place,,,,it works very nicely. Thought I had it and was going to put it on my sale list. I have XB70 and this XB700 in that series now.
