My Argus/Mamiya Prismat arrived yesterday (Thursday) The bayonet mount lens is marked Argus-Sekor 58mm f 1.7 serial 963906 looks clean inside, focuses smoothly. The body is good on the outside, the shutter works, the lever wind very smooth, the viewfinder and mirror are clean. Serial number 3886542, still has the JC11 ? sticker on it. Internally it is a bit sticky and part of the light seal, or something else has dried out and is very stubborn to remove. I was wondering just how rare this camera as an Argus, with this lens is now?
I have now cleaned the insides, I don't feel inclined to renew the lightseals as the gap is very narrow.
It came together with a chrome Yashica FX-D with the Yashica 50mm f2 lens which has very very light fungus inside. The camera works perfectly, the metalwork is good, no scratches, no dents (I think that the top might be a form of plastic anyway) the body covering in the usual state which I have removed in preparation for a set of 'Millys Cameras' self adhesive covers in black leather. I have also renewed the light seals, messy, a job I hate. I paid a total of £40 for the two - which I think is OK. +£12 for the covers.
I am not too upset about the lens because it was not described as perfect and unless you know what you are looking for, it could appear to be dust.

I have been interested in cameras since I was about 12 (60+ years ago.) I didn't do much photograph from about 1985 to 2013 or so. I then started taking it seriously again. When looking through ebay I suddenly realised that the cameras from the 1960's to the 1980's - mainly manual focus SLRs that I knew a lot about but couldn't afford were going for very low prices. I think that the camera that really got me started again was a nice Yashica FR2 with an F1.4 lens for silly money. I then started collecting good Yashicas and Konicas, going on to Pentax, Nikon, Rolleiflex 35mm Zeiss and others. I did sell some of my nicest ones to pay for a Sony a7 full frame body and lenses, but getting going again, with some discriminating buys.

I saw a Miranda Sensorex 2 with Miranda 50mm f 1.8 lens on ebay a few days ago, with ERC and original manual. It was shown with a 'spare' Rollei Planar 50mm lens and a small box with 'Vivitar' written on it.
I bought the lot as a gamble because it wasn't described very well. £30.
The camera arrived, on first inspection it seems good+. Serial 8335224. To my surprise the Vivitar box contained a Miranda VFE 1 waist level finder in very good order - bonus. The Rollei lens looks ok optically but has no bayonet! Having had a good look at the camera and a preliminary clean, it is in very good cosmetic condition, no dents at all, the pentaprism removes smoothly, the shutter speeds seem fine and the lens is clean. The exposure meter needle in the viewfinder does not move and the other follow needle is missing. Inside the screen is a bit dusty. That is not too much of a problem considering all the good bits. The sturdiness and durable finish of the camera remind me of the early Konica and Nikon SLR. If anyone wants a Rollei 50mm lens for spares, it is on ebay now!
Rollei lens now sold!

I think that I might look for a good Kyocera Samurai half frame. This would go, by style, with my other odd cameras, Ricoh Mirai, Chinon Genesis etc. but prices are still very high.

Looking through the auction site I found an Olympus Pen E-P 3 with a 14-42 lens, battery and charger. The description was - doesn't switch on, good lens. As I was in the market for another lens for my infrared equipped Panasonic GX-7 I bought it and chanced £25 on it. When it arrived it works perfectly but there is a fault in the lens over about 30mm, well known fault, apparently. So I have a good quality camera that cost £700 in 2011. Plus a spare micro 4/3 lens which is OK for wide angles.

I have just bought one of these, it looks in really good shape. I will add a photo when it arrives. I haven't had one of these before but seen quite a few in various models and like the shape of this one better than the earlier ones. (Better proportions?). I will be interested to compare it with my Bessamatic.

Pentina

The local charity shop has a good looking Pentina and case for sale. It states untested. I quite fancy it but it is £70. As it is a charity shop I don't like to try to haggle. Probably worth £30-£40 I went into the shop again and had a look at the Pentina, the shutter works, but seems to be content to operate at about 1/200, the exposure needle moves but there is a noticeable dent on one top corner. I couldn't easily remove the back. I remarked to the sales assistant that I might be interested when the price dropped. She said it won't, so that is that.

Photo of my three 'futuristic' 35mm cameras together. Canon Epoca, Olympus IS 3000 & the Minolta Riva Zoom 105i. The first two seem to work OK. I have just ordered a Ricoh Mirai with 35-135 zoom to go with them!
From a charity shop. Edit. The Ricoh Mirai arrived today, perfect cosmetic condition. I inserted 4 x AAA batteries, everything seems to work, it also has its remote control, how rare is that? What a strange but wonderful device! I also received separately the Mirai instruction manual, only fair condition, but I am happy with that.
On order, a Chinon Genesis with instruction manual, looks good. Just missed a mint Aiborg at a good price or is that too much to ask? The Chinon Genesis has arrived. It is immaculate with battery (nearly depleted) and it works, very impressive looking camera with a quality finish. I now have 5 different 'futuristic' film cameras, out of all of them I think I would choose the Olympus to put a film through. Perhaps I will!
To add to the above (March 20th 2020) I have bought a Fuji FZ3000 zoom with flashgun. And today I have ordered a Konica Aiborg, which seems to be cheap, bearing in mind the elevated prices these seem to attract. Seven strange cameras together!
Ordered the Aiborg on Saturday the 21st March in the afternoon, it arrived at about 3.30 pm today Monday the 23rd amazing service. It is in excellent condition, not far off mint, slid a battery in and everything seems to work. Another weird camera for £30 inc. postage. Bargain.

I have just bought a 2004 Pentax Optio MX4 off ebay, in absolutely mint condition. This came with original box, charger, cables, disc & instructions. The battery seems OK too. It is tiny. I have just given it my usual casual image testing out of my front door at max. & min. zoom. The result is stunning, detail, colour, everything. Yet this is a 4 mp camera. Unfortunately despite the pistol grip, it is difficult to operate, control buttons in the wrong places, the folding screen is poor quality & gets in the way, the 4 way button too small and the bright green light on the on button not needed. So, I imagine that most of these were forgotton about by 2010 and scrapped or put away in storage. Well worth keeping and taking out for exercise occasionally.

I seem to be accumulating still cameras in the shape of video cameras. Just bought off ebay a (digital) Pentax MX4 Optio, silver for £10. I have never seen one before.
This goes with my 35mm Minolta Riva 105i zoom and my Canon Epoca. I wonder what I will see next and cannot resist?
The MX4 arrived today in as new condition and much tinier than expected.
