I managed to pickup a OM-3 as "not working, as-is" but upon receipt found it to be in very good cosmetic shape working perfectly . . . However, even this "non-working as-is" OM-3 was not an impulse buy for me. Yoshihisa Maitani was just a genius and changed the world of SLRs!

I wonder though how far off anyone is from making a solar powered camera which never needs an external method to charge its system. There was the Ricoh XR-S with a solar charging circuit circa 1981.

If the Canon EF's shutter priority autoexposure mode is to be considered as part of the dawn of electronic slrs then you would also have to consider the Topcon Auto 100 and the Konica Auto-Reflex both of which were released many years before - 1964 & 65.

A verbal X : the Yashica ID-plate recalls the Atom. How about X-rays for the letter X ? The Yashica TL Electro X has two of those atomic symbols on it. One on top of the shutter speed selector and one in front just below the TL.

OM1 did not take well to torrential rains that killed off its lightmeter and left the prism (or ocular?) beyond repair. (My M3 survived the same exposure to that weather). Is that because the M3 has no built-in meter for the torrential rain to kill . . .

Testing out my portable DIY 100watt LED. I have since changed to Lithium batteries and charging it with a So Lar panel which makes it very useful for field work given the volume of quality Light that comes from it.
