The camera's may be underrated and inexpensive, but not the lenses! I can't believe what some people want for Exacta mount lenses. Once again, I'm glad I bought all mine 20+ years ago when nobody wanted them. I would not pay todays going prices for lenses, but I am very cheap.

I use to lust after those. Way above my pay grade (at least circa 1983). I have a XA2, but it's not the same. I will have to buy one sometime.

Well, is there any truth to the stated fact that if the Novar has a Zeiss serial number it was made by them? I ask because I have a front cell focusing 70mm F/3.5 Novar in Compur Rapid that has a Zeiss serial number from 1932. What is your opinion Hansz.

I got the ubiquitous K1000 with 50mm F/2 for my 13th Birthday in Sept. 1979. Still have it and it still works. I also bought my first car (a 1971 2dr Maverick with 170/3-speed manual) in November 1983 for $625 and I still have it. I don't get rid of much!

Yup. Back in the early 90's I had a Pentax K2 with the 50mm F/1.2 (!) that I had bought at a Dallas camera show for just $60. Sold it to KEH (which had a small store in Dallas) for $175 dollars. The K2 is still available cheaply enough, but have you priced f/1.2 Pentax's lately? Geez!

Hey, PGF, couldn't you have bargained the prices down a little more? ;D Yeah, he should have sold it all for $8. Does he not know film is dead? Next time I'll complain!

Well I made out like a bandit this weekend at an estate sale. I normally only collect Pentax 35mm stuff, however I might now have to be a Nikon user. I bought (all in excellent or mint condition) a Nikon FM with MD-11 motor for $45, a AI Nikkor 43-86 for $25, a Ai-s 105mm f/2.5 ( that is mint) for $20, a 500mm F/8 C Nikkor Reflex with original case, screw in caps and hood for (WOW!) $35, and the best deal of all ( I still can't believe it) a factory AI converted 20mm f/3.5 UD Nikkor for just $8!!!!!. It had a piece of tape across the cap but he had forgotten to put a price on it. I calmly gathered it up and asked how much he wanted. He took out his pen and wrote $8 on it. I'm still in awe. Oh yeah, almost forgot, he had a PB-4 bellows and PS-4 slide copier in their original boxes with instruction manuals for $10. Got those too. Only thing I did not buy (and now regret it) was a Nikon Photomic FT-N for $35. Only reason I did not was because I already have one. This will go with some earlier Nikon deals I have gotten over the past few years such as a Nikon FG with Ai-s 50mm F/1.4 Nikkor and SB-15 flash for $20 a couple of years ago, and my Nikon FT-N i bought 17 years ago for $40. Also, I almost forgot, I picked up a non-Ai 80-200 Nikkor C zoom for $25 at the same estate sale yesterday.

Don't remember the issue, but Modern Photos Jason Schneider did an article on the Red Flag camera's. I want to say in the mid eighties, around 84-85?

I think the ugliest camera ever was the Bell and Howell Foton.

Off the camera subject, from what I understand, Leylands management was awful. Looking at it from an American perspective, they were basically responsible for the destruction of the British car industry as a viable entity.

I'm in Dallas quite often. Where is Don's Equipment located. I'll have to go there.

Ritz camera used to offer different camera coverings in the 70's and early 80's on the cameras they sold. Don't know if they offered it on camera's sent in to them or not. I'll have to look at my old magazines.

I have and use a Olympus 35 RC myself. Very sharp optics. I have found a nice balance between my film and digital shooting. Film for me, digital for the family shots. I paid $15 for my 35 RC in a pawn shop back in the 80's. Love the full info finder which is rare on rangefinders of this genre.

I have a ME and two ME Supers. The ME functions perfectly, but the Supers have electronic problems. I don't miss the manual mode, exposure comp. switch is just as good for me. If I really need manual I'll use my LX or KX. (or Spotmatics, or K1000's etc., etc.).

Modern Photo tested them both and gave them pretty good marks. Both were sharp.
