I believe that I actually visited that place about 15 years ago, IIRC it is in a gallery downtown. That should be the one, it's down a very long shopping street. We had great pancakes and icecream there as well. I've looked it up it's in the Monserrat district , Humberto 1St , Plaza Dorrego.

Somewhere on Route 54 shot with the panasonic DMC TZ-60. I was amazed how good the B&W comes out of this camera. The subject helps but this is just one of those shots of wich I wonder why I (in some cases) should bother with B&W film anymore

Here's one I've forgot from when I was in a "mercada" somewhere in Buenos Aires (buenos Aires is BIG) I've just read the request to not make the published images larger than 640pixels to not overload the site with data, so from now on 640pixels it is.

On my third visit to Iceland i've found another small photoshop. This time in the charming litle town of Borganes. Furthermore i've noticed that in most small villages there would allways be a photographer offering his (or her) services in documenting your stay in Iceland.

I did make a mistake with the nikkor, I've tried it again and got good results, while I was at it I tested some of the other 35mm's: 1) Voigtländer nokton35 1:1.4 2Leitz Elmarit R 35 1:2.8 3)Canon FD 35 1:2 4)Carl Zeiss Distagon 35 1:2.8 5) Nikkor 35 1:2 6)Nikkor AF 35 1:2 D Nikkor 35 1:2.8 not in the picture The best in this test was the Nikkor Ai 35 f2 (manual) with the Zeiss as a close second. The Leica R 35 was dissapointing and the Voigtländer a disaster.

When comparing the samyang to the nikkor I was amased at how much better the samyang was, to a point I thought I did something wrong with the nikkor, but I didn't. Now I'll have to check some other 35mm's as well just out of curiosity. But first I'm gonna leave for a few days to Iceland to see how the panasonic travel compacts behave at -8°C. Here's some 100% cut outs : Nikkor 35mm AF f2 Samyang 35mm f1:1.4 Both shot were focussed on the lantern

You could test at infinity focus, but probably it won’t change much. Did the test, turned out it's what Ive thought, the samyang suffers from some serious focus breathing at close focussing distances. Here's two shots one with the nikkor 35 f2 and the other with the samyang 35 f1:1.4 both focussed close to infinity. Both give the same field of view. So the focus breathing of the Samyang is something to be taken in to account when getting closer to the subject. nikkor: samyang:

When doing some tests for sharpness and bokeh a strange thing happened. The two shots below are both made with the camera mounted on a tripod, at exactly the same distance. The samyang came out nowhere near its claimed 35mm, so I checked it against some other lenses and the actual angle of view is approxomatly that of a 45mm! So far I dont know what causes this and if the lens would be focussed at infinity it would give the 35mm angle of view (because of "focus breathing"), if so it would have been something I would rather expected this from a zoom than a fixed focal lenght. Still need to check that.

I've recieved my URTH Leica M to Nikon Z adapter so I could use my M lenses on the Z. First to try was the Voightländer 35mm 1:1.4 Nokton Classic. What a disgrace for the Voigthländer name. I've heard some bad things about this lens, but now I've tried it i believe everything that is written about it. To say it is "soft" wideopen is an understatement, to me it is just unsharp! and laks contrast. Things improve somewhat stepped down, but this isn't the reason one buys a 1:1.4 lens. I did a comparison against the Samyang 35mm 1:1.4 (wich is monstrously large) this isn't exactly a top of the range prime, but still it performs well even wideopen. Here's the results, for good measure I've included a shot made with the Nikkor Z 24-70 f4 zoom at 35mm f4. here's the complete image and here's both lenses next to each other Anyway, it's a waste of time and film to use this Voightländer lens on the Leica M's there are better options.... I'm running a film through the M4 haven't got much hope for the results on film for this lens either.

The Leica R4s just came to join the collection, the strange thing about an R4S is that unlike what most people could think, that it isn't a "special" edition of the R4. The "S" here stands for simplified as it is a R4 with less features, no program mode, no shutter priority. Together with the S came an Elmarit R 90mm 2.8 which should be the same as the M version (which looks completely different). Here's the R4s next to the R4 And here's the R4s with the Elmarit R 90 2.8 next to the M4 with its M Elmarit. Surprisingly seeing them next to one another one can see the M isn't much smaller than the R. One of these days i'll be comparing the M and R Elmarit in everyday use to find out if there's any difference.

As a late christmas present, today this 1960 Nikon F arrived on my doorstep. Its 641XXXX serial puts the production date between Januari and August 1960. it is in very good condition and is now the oldest F in the collection, very close to the very first ones from 1959. I found it at an Austrian dealer site, as Austria is part of the EU there wasn't any trouble getting it delivered.

These panasonic Lumix compacts will be my "new" travelcameras for 2023. They will replace the Nikon Coolpix 9900 and the P600. The white one on the left is the DMC-LF1 it is tiny and light the f2 max aperture will help in those low light situations and the 28 to 200mm (equivalent 35mm) lens has just enough range to cover most of the subjects. In the middle is the DMC-TZ60 with a 30x zoom range starting at 24mm at f3.3. The build in GPS will help me remind where I shot which photo and the long end of the zoom gives enough distance between me and shy (or dangerous!) animals or insects. The same goes for the all black DMC-TZ90 on the right, this one's got the advantage of a flip screen, higher pixel count (20Mp) but hasn't got build in GPS it can be coupled to a cell phone wich will then transfer the GPS data to the camera. The TC90 isn't as pocketable as the other 2 because it is somewhat heavier and larger. All of them have wi-fi, blue tooth and nfc, but what is more of interest to me is they all got eyelevel finders wich solves the problem of not being able to see the screen in bright daylight, this was one of the main reasons I didn't like compact cameras. Allmost forgot, all of them got 5 axis image stabilisation and very fast AF. I'll stil be carrying the coolpix AW-110 and the keymission 170 along for those underwater and extreme wideangle shots but all this will weigh a lot less than a dslr with some lenses, with the endless possibilities of these compacts there will be very few shots I won't be able to take. Yes a full frame dslr will give better results but for now I am travelling for leisure and not for national geographic.
