Congratulation
Test it with battery and check electronics. I have one where the ASA dial does not work. It always stays at 3200 ASA.

Just a small correction, the Zenit 3M had a swing back, not removable. Same as the Zorki-6 RF, which was the starting point. I should know as I used a 3M as my main camera for more than 10 happy years. Yes, you are right, I should know too, because I have used them not too long ago. Hannes

In 1958, one year before Nikon introduced the F, KMZ made the Start. A professional SLR with similar features the Nikon F had and a view Nikon did not have. Like the film cutter and the possibitily to use Kiev/Contax casettes instead of take up spool. My Start models are from 1963, production of the Start ended in 1964. It is a pitty that KMZ did not produce more lenses with native mount. At least there was the adapter to use M39 lenses from the Zenit SLRs. KMZ Start with Helios 44Look at Nikon F and Start side by side to see what they have in common. Start also had exchangeable finder and focusing screens. KMZ Start versus Nikon F And finally the Start with WLF and 85mm f2 Jupiter 9 m39 lens Hannes

My oldest Russian SLR is this Zenit-S from 1956, which is based on th Zorki-S, a bottom loader. One of the uggliest SLR ever ist the Crystall, built only 1961 and 1962 which makes it too young for this list. KMZ Kristall 1962 Among all models of this series I prefere the Zenit 3 which was released after the Crystall and is still a bottom loader, but with improved mechanics. Later came the Zenit 3M with removable hinged back, which introduces light leak problems :-) Some late versions of Zenit 3M have been sold as Zenit 3 again, so there is some little confusion. Hannes

That's the result when function has to follow form. I prefer the form follows function aproach.

Here they are. Finally all 3 lenses are working again. No sticky aperture blades. Both cameras are working. The light meter of the IIId is broken. Hannes

Hello again:
Meanwhile I got a Regula IIId with 50 and 135mm lens. The 50 mm lens suffered from the same problem. Aperture blades sticky. The 135mm works but the blades are not "snappy" So I assume they will stick one day sooner or later too.
On the Enna lens the optical elements can easily be removed. They are just screwed in. Then I could clean the aperture mechanism with lighter fluid without the need of disassembling it.
Now I tried the same on the Regula Westron 35mm lens. It is more complicated and I did not find an easy way to remoe the lens element behind the aperture blades. But the front element can be just unscrewed.
From the front I could apply a little lighter fluid and it looks promising.
Now I have the Super Automatic and a IIId. Shutters on both work fine. The lightmeter on the IIId is dead but the one on the Super Automatic works.
I hope I can shoot a roll of film soon. I will use the Super Automatic because it has markings for the 135mm lens in the view finder. For 35mm I will use an external finder from my Kiev.
I'm really interested in the results because the lenses seem to be simple layout.

Got it for the starting bid of 1€ plus 5.6€ shipping Hans, can you tell the year of production from serial number? It has #38820 I like the color of mine. And I'm happy that it came with leather case and is fully working. More images in the Flickr album Hannes
