When hunting for a M3 i came across this R8 with a nice Macro Elmarit 2.8 60mm that i couldn't resist, it is such a weird camera. Now i don't know if i'm gonna try the M2 out first or the R8. I still need to develop the film i shot on the Contax G1, it has spooled the leader in the casette and i tried to get it out with a Hama film retriever but to no avail. This is gonna be some fumbling in the dark room

If the Hama does not work, there is always the hammer.

If the Hama does not work, there is always the hammer. The hama really is a 9.95€ piece of junk, i've tried it on illford, Kodak and Agfa casettes and no matter how i twisted or turned the "retriever" i was unable to retrieve the film in none of them . It is back to the darkroom and the bottle opener. Furthermore i'll need to check wich cameras can be programmed to leave out the leader when rewinding the film, a problem wich doesn't exist with manual rewind.

I found the M3 to be exceedingly robust.
Once when I was accompanying my archeologist wife on one of her shorter fieldtrips to photograph viking age "kettleworks "we were surprised by an intense rainfall while walking in dense forest without rainclothes. Her OM1 got the prismhousing full of water and stopped working while my M3 was unharmed (no cases used in order to save weight and eliminate cumbersome fiddling ). To be certain that it was OK I later visited the national Leitz HQ and had it tested: thy confirmed that everything worked according to specs.
I would not dare to bring my R8 & 9 on such an expedition -too much vulnerable electronics inside although the mechanics are up to LEitz standards.
