Don't know if this can be counted as plastic fantastic or just fantastic... When introduced in 1972 the SX70 caused quite a stir with it's revolutionary specs, now more than 50 years on it is still a special camera. However the whole instant SX70 type and spin off camera's got a serious blow when in 2008 polaroid ceased manufacturing all instant film. For the die hard enthousiasts the impossible project came to the rescue by re-issuing SX70 type film by using equipment acquired when the original manufacturing facilities closed. It was never the same quality as the original but now the camera's could be put to good use again. I recently bought a heap of expired SX70 film and am now using it in the original SX70 with very mixed results. One of the main problems is the low sensitivity of the emulsion and the small aperture of the lens which makes it allmost impossible to get sharp shots in anything but bright sunlight. When I'll run out of film packs I'll be switching to the later type of camera's which use the 600 type packs, making it somewhat easyer to shoot in less than ideal light situations.
On another note, now fuji has stopped producing polaroid type peel apart instant film, the question is who's gonna take up the challenge to make it again? From what I've heard this isn't a simple task and even more complicated than the SX70 type. Still got a few packs here don't now if i'll use them in the hasselblad or sell them for a good price???
Here's the SX70 with some results:
