My second Ikonta arrived. It's the Zeiss Ikon Ikonta 522/24 35mm. It is in great shape. Only thing I notice is the film advance makes a clicking sound and the film counter seems "reluctant" to advance. It feels like a slipping clutch action where the amount of rotation isn't reflected in the turning of the other (reversing winder) thumbwheel. All the shutter controls, aperture etc are operational and it is very clean. I can't get used to the film advance system without a lever of some kind.

Hi Luke,
I haven't been inside a 522/24, or even had one so this might be the blind leading the blind, but it sounds possible that the rewind clutch isn't re-engaging properly. Maybe it's a bit sticky from lack of use. Open the back and try holding the sprocket wheel shaft while you wind on. If you get a click and can hold the wheel against the wind-on action you've found the problem. You could also try pushing in the rewind clutch button (or lever whichever it is) so the sprocket shaft is free to turn backwards, and then releasing it while you turn the shaft forwards again to see if the button/lever returns OK and the clutch engages properly. Rewind clutches are usually fairly simple arrangements, and you can possibly see the action while you do this. Hope it's something simple, like just a sticky action. Good luck with it.

Thanks again kind sir, I will play with it this weekend. I have a roll of film in there now and hopefully it will allow me to finish that roll without slipping completely.

Peter I tried the steps you describe and the clutch almost engages but slips when any pressure is used to brake the spool. It seems to be ever so slightly out of adjustment so that it slips intermittently when the film is loaded. I don't have a fine enough screwdriver to undo the bottom plate but I will get one. There may be some adjustment possible through the bottom.
