Just escored on Ebay.
The Nikon F4 comes standard with a focusing screen with a microprism center spot for focusing. I find that as these old eyes get older it becomes more difficult to focus with the microprism screen unless I am in bright sunlight.
I alway have preferred a split image focusing screen like the ones in my FM and F3. They made two styles fo split image screens for the F4 --The "K" with a standard split image spot in the center and the "P" which has the split image at a 45 degree angle. But they are relatively hard to find and tend to be pricey.
Today I picked up the "P" focusing screen on Ebay for what I thought was a reasonable price. Another advantage of the "P" is it has etched vertical and horizontal lines that cross in the middle --helps keep the camera square with the world. Only negative is I won't have the screen in time for our Alaskan cruise.

Wayne,
Too bad the new purchase will miss that great cruise.
When it does arrive, you will simply love the 'P' screen. I bought one a number of years ago new for my F4. I was surprised to even be able to get a new one, but I no longer recall the price, except to say it was worth it. The diagonal split is so much easier to use than the normal split and the grid screen is so much of a help...keeping horizons straight, variable positions of framing the subject, etc.

We leave on the cruise Saturday and the screen won't get here until next week! Although we won't have it for the cruise, two weeks later we have to drive to Cody, Wyoming -- 500 miles more or less--and I'm sure I'll make good use of it on that excursion.
I had been considering getting the microprism screen with grid likes ("E" I believe) but the "P" gives me the split image AND lines.
