Started off with an ST605 - which I really liked. Got an STX1 - which I didn't, mainly because of a poor lens (trying to keep the lens count down so haven't gone for any other X bayonets). Got an ST705 - seems nice but faulty meter. Got an ST801 - ditto. Yes I can use these without the meter - but why should I have to? That's an ongoing project. My positively last foray into the Fujica field brought..... Hopefully this will live up to Bob's recommendations (LOL) Regards - John ps No hippy strap sadly!

Forgot you were also a Fujica fan Randy.
Read a report saying that the AZ-1 is shutter priority automatic. Do you know how that works with M42 lenses? I have a Konica FP1, and that physically adjusts the aperture on the Hexanon lenses. Or are they special M42 lenses for the AZ-1?
BTW I'm serious about not wanting to expand the lens count much more, but I am looking at an M42 > MD converter. I would like to use the Minoltas (SRT101 & XG-M) some more as the XG-M in particular struck me as a nice item. Have you tried a converter with them?

Now I'm totally confused (as usual!) www.pentax-manuals.com/fujica/manuals/az1_test_report.pdfThis link talks about the AZ-1 being aperture priority, with the ST cameras as shutter priority. Don't have it here, but I don't remember the ST605 having auto aperture control. Guess I'd better just wait and see what I get! Regards - John

John, I don't know anything about the AZ, but the ST-605 and STX-2 that I have are full manual cameras.

Aaaagh - Aaagh
What is wrong with me?? Instead of waiting for Randy's advice on the M42 converter, (so I can use my vast[ish] selection of M42 lenses on my Minoltas), I bid a ridiculous amount on a Vivitar MD zoom. Why? Somebody STOP me!!
Regards - John
ps - it's quite a bright lens actually with a nice range but.........

OK - the AZ1 I received today. Total panic - meter not working (again??). Replaced batteries, not a spark. Stretched and cleaned contact springs - nothing. Replace new batteries the other way round. LED lit below threshold. Pointed at light. Same. Released and depressed shutter button. Full deflection. Eureka! Replaced supplied batteries. They worked too. So the seller had gone to the trouble of getting new batteries, trying them the wrong way round, and saying nothing about the metering apparently not working.
Anyway.... At last I've got a new M42 Fujica to play with! Now to make sense of which priority it is (looks like straight aperture priority to me) and hopefully post a few results soon.
At the same time I got a very nice looking Sigma 80 - 200 'High-Speed' M42 zoom. Here we go....!
Regards - John
