Just when you think you don't need any additions. Well we all know the rest of the story. I could not resist a Kiev 4a (I think it is) with a J-8M lens and a trigger wind Ricoh 500. Looking forward to putting film through them tomorrow. Bob

Looks like on of the early models of the last Kiev 4a (1972 according to the lens) but there isn't a bulge beside the lens mount above the self timer lever.

I am not good at with Kiev models so it may be a different model. The camera is from 1979 as the first two digits of the serial number are 79 if that helps.

Bob I'm no expert on Kievs but I think that means the lens/body aren't an original combintion. Serial numbers of lenses & bodies start with a two-digit year code (I'll stand correction on that if someone knows better). I have a Kiev 4 that I know the history of from new, and both the lens and body start "75". Looks in nice condition though :-)

Correction: This would be a late model Kiev if the SN begins with 79. It was the earlier Kievs that had the bump by the lens mount. The later models aren't as well finished as the older ones and the quality got so bad toward the end that one batch allegedly was hauled directly to the dump. But that was the 4AM model (with a rewind crank). I have a '79 Kiev 4a and it takes great pictures. Wolves 3012 is right, the lens wouldn't be original to that camera but all of the Kiev "normal" glass was good. In fact, some say the later lenses were better than the early ones.

I have an older Kiev with a meter and the same J8M lens that is a wonderful picture taker aside from some light leaks. I could not fix the leaks so when this one showed up wo meter I grabbed it hoping for the best. Besides I like the meterless ones better. The shutter release on the 79 is a little rougher but the rest seems OK. For the cost of these you can afford to gamble. If you get a good body and lens you have an outstanding working camera that can stand up to most RF cameras of their era as far as output is concerned.
