Now when I see this on Evilbay it just p i s s e s me off. Student Camera...yeah, like some photography student is gonna need a 40 year old camera that takes a 1.3 volt battery that you can't buy any more that has been sitting in Uncle Floyd's upstairs closet since Hubert Humphrey ran for president. Gimme a friggin break, Student Camera is the sellers way of trying to get $120 bucks for a camera he isn't sure if it works because he doesn't know anything about cameras....all 46 cameras he is sellin. Oh, and after you buy his special gem of a camera, the shipping is $22.80 and he only lives 200 miles away. There oughta be a law against these guys. I bought a camera a month ago on Evilbay and as usual I paid for it right away. After waiting to hear from the seller for a week I sent them several e-mails and got no answer. I had to resort to getting their telephone number and calling them. Some half drunk chick answered the phone and identified herself as the proprieter of an Auto Salvage Yard. I asked her if she shipped the camera and she said...now I ain't lieing here..."Oh s h i t! I forgot about that! I left that in my boyfriend's pickup truck last weekend, but I was gonna ship it" So I said, "are you gonna ship it?" and she said, "yes, as soon as I remember which truck he was driving". I hung up on the little lady. Needless to say, I finally got the camera. Yeah...it was broke. She was shocked when she got a Neutral Feedback. Watch out what you buy on Ebay. Just because they have a good feedback rating doesn't mean they are good people. Thanks for the read.

8-)Hi Randy,Re Evilbay: As long as your not bitter about it! However I do agree 'Student Camera ' 'Pro Camera' 'Beginners Camera' et all are somewhat spurious terms (Like David Bailey uses an Olympus Trip and suddenly he's an amateur?) I've just bought three cameras on E(vil) Bay and they've all been fine.Beginners luck perhaps. I'll post them on 'E.bay Bargains' when I'm feeling strong enough to wrestle with the photo insertion bit Meanwhile- Relax! - Take a few deep breaths- go take some pictures......... regards Chris.

Yes - I tend to agree Randy
You'll often see that posted on our eBay too - because a lot of college courses require the students to present themselves together with a 35mm SLR film camera.
I never sell on eBay (mainly because I couldn't bear to part with anything), but if I did it would be easy enough to go down the 'Don't know anything about cameras, but I'll do my best to answer your questions, provided they're not too technical...." road. I know that if I did that, it would be because I was selling somebody a pup.
On the other hand(!), I have bought cameras from people who have said exactly that. In one memorable purchase I put a bid on with two minutes to go, won the items (a pair of matching Minister IIIs), asked the seller a question, (to ring me because their location was my local town) then went to the supermarket. The seller rang while I was in the supermarket, and it turned out they lived 200 yards up the road from where I was standing.
I went round, and it turned out the seller was a lovely lady who had just found the cameras in her uncle's wardrobe (he'd just popped his clogs). That girl seriously hadn't a clue about cameras. But I checked them out, one's winder was harder to operate (probably why the uncle got the other) than the other, but it was fine really.
Two hours for the transaction.
Regards - John
ps "Popped his clogs" = died (in Lancastrian !!)

Randy, I do buy on eBay with very few problems. Within the past two months I bought 3 folders and one lens. All three folders were excellent (except on the $10 one I had to unstick the focusing element, which I repaired) all with good bellows, and the lens buy was a 90mm f/4 M Leitz/Rokkor that I bought for $162 for my M2, as new, and it is as new! That was sweet.
I try to be very careful and I make an attempt to contact the seller. If I do that, at least I know there is a real person on the other end.

(that's a joke) LOL! ;D But I know just how you feel. I've had relatively good luck on the EvilBay, but maybe that's because I avoid listings like you just mentioned!

You have to be careful buying FSU gear now. It appears that most of the "good stuff" already has been sold and a lot of what is available now has issues of one sort or another. There was a guy on another forum that apparently got the FSU bug only recently, bought four different cameras and none of them worked properly.

Wayne: I've purchased nearly ALL my FSU gear on evilBay, and had very good luck with each one. Did the guy on the other forum happen to mention the seller, by any chance? Might be a good one to avoid!
