Upset I am. No rephrase that - extremely upset. Got up at 3.05am this morning to see if I'd won it. No such luck!
Spotted it, nestling unobtrusively in the listings last week, the rarest of all the Topcon Rs - last of the line before they turned to making the RE.
Each year they improved it - first, 1957, came the R with the pre-set lever on the lens: www.marcoant.com/Topcon/infoA15.htm
then in 1959 the R with the external auto diaphragm (picture at bottom of above link),
then in 1960 the completely internal auto diaphragm
www.marcoant.com/Topcon/infoA30.htm:
Finally in 1961 came the ultimate R - non rotating single shutter dial. At last I could look Canon, Nikon & Minolta fans in the eye for my camera would, at long last, have a clip-on exposure meter!
www.marcoant.com/Topcon/infoA31.htm
Very short lived (The non meter RS www.marcoant.com/Topcon/infoA32.htmfollowed it) and very, very rare.
I followed it all week sneaking glances at work to see what it had reached. Up to Tuesday the $80 was, I knew, unrealistic, McKeowans said $150, but I knew that would be exceeded.
So I decided I'd bust a gut & the bank) to get it. Id have to sacrifice a Nikon FE2 & a Topcon R - to raise the cash (duplicates) and I reckoned I'd raise about $300. So I put in a snipe of $320 and awaited the end.
In with a chance? You must be joking!
$390!
See for yourselves - isn't it a beauty. Then I'm biased.

Perhaps I should take up Gardening instead.
