I'm still looking for a front lens cap that will fit either the Mamiya CS or SX 14mm fisheye lens. Does anyone happen to have an extra one (lens cap, that is)? Or know of a possible source for them? I will gladly pay a reasonable charge for one! I've made my own for the time being, but would really rather have something a bit more durable than I was able to construct!

While waiting to find an original lens cap, I thought I would show off the one I made. I apologize for the bad images, they were quickly set-up and shot. I started with regular old poster board. I glued two sheets together for extra sturdiness. I cut the circular area, and then a long strip to make the side of the cap. These were just taped together loosely, until I could fill the gap with plain old white glue. When all this was dry, I used a self-adhesive sheet of black leatherette (from Micro-Tools) to cover it...making angled cuts all along it and lapping it completely over the poster-board sides. I filled the inside with self-adhesive black felt (from the local craft store), and WA-LA! Temporary lens cap that fits snuggly and works like a charm!

Ron; What is the outer diameter of the lens? I'm thinking of the type of push on cap for spray paint or that type of pressurized container. I have seen them in different sizes but you have to know the lens O/D first. Large Laundry detergent container caps also might be candidates.

I'd have to measure it again, because I'm afraid I've forgotten! Once I hit on the solution to building it myself (sturdy enough to last a while, soft enough not to scratch the lens barrel, tight enough not to fall off if I don't think about it every second) I quit looking for a "real" one! ;D This cover has turned out much more durable than I first imagined. And I have so much of the construction items mentioned, just for the regular stuff I do around here, that it's pretty cheap to make. I don't charge myself for the labor, and it keeps me off the streets at night! LOL
