I went to Circuit City this week to check out a Cannon digital pocket camera for my nephew when I happened to see the new Nikon D80.
Wow, 10.2 MP and a zoom lens that really reaches out there.
I was thinking about buying a D50 but held off because it's only 6.1 MP and many of the newer little cameras have higher MP ratings so I figured Nikon would soon produce something a little higher in MP.
Right now, the D80 is my top choice for a digital SLR.
Funny thing is I paid more for my Nikon Coolpix 5700 a few years ago. It's a 5 MP non SLR that still works fine after thousands of pictures. My wife uses a Nikon 4300 with great results and we gave our Nikon 2500 to our 9 year old grand daughter to take pictures of "Critters" and horses. She's quite the little pro.
Does anyone have a D80 yet? I see they are puling 5.0 out of 5.0 on the various consumer feedback sites.

dpreview.com posted their review of the D80 yesterday. I only read the intro, they like it.

Only thing I know about the D80 is you can't use non-af lenses on it (at least they won't meter). You can on the D-70s and the D200. I was rather disappointed that Nikon didn't carry that compatiblity through to the D80. If I really needed a DSLR (which I don't) I would spend the additional money and get the D200. Actually I plan to continue to wait until that market stabilizes and prices drop to reasonalble levels--as happened with computers.

I'll follow the reviews and the user reports on the D80 and if they're consistently good, I might look for a used one when the D90 gets released Gene
