I sent my Nikon Coolpix 950 to Nikon a few years ago because the battery door swings open unexpectedly. After paying them I don't remember how much, the camera came back exactly the same as when I sent it.
Specifically, the battery door looks just slightly open even when I try to shut it tight (by pressing firmly to close it completely and then sliding the latch to closed position). When handling the camera, one needs to constantly be cautious to keep a finger or two under the door to ensure it is not nudged accidentally, causing the door to swing open (and then enjoying the humiliation of four AA's dropping to the ground).
Does anyone have a solution to this?

Hi Drako - Welcome to the board. Post your signature so we can call you by name. Why not just tape it with duct or insulation tape? Not as elegant as a permanent fix, but it should work.
Regards - John

Thanks, John. I all for Rube Goldberg! Unfortunately, I burn through batteries pretty quickly, so I'm hoping to find a slightly more elegant solution.

Well, no sooner had I mentioned the door-not-closing problem that the door itself broke off. Where can I get another one?

Drako,
About a year ago I left the battery door open on my Nikon 5700 whilst charging the battery.
Sure enough, it was bumped and the door hinge was damaged.
I was able to buy a new door from a local Nikon dealer for a mere $27.00
Some of these cameras have problems that have happened to others so a Nikon dealer may have them in stock.
Moral of the story, close the battery door while charging and treat it gently when opening or closing.
