www.dpreview.com/news/0803/08031802panasonicfx500.aspUltracompact digital P&S cameras are not everyone's cup of tea, but I think they make great carry-everywhere cams when you don't want to tote about a heavier film cam. This one really grabbed my attention: Leica 25-125mm equiv zoom range. That's really wide for a P&S. 10 megapixels and image stabilized. Lumix units are often noisy at higher iso, but the one I owned was decent at its base iso. With stabilization you can shoot at its lowest iso most of the time. Gene

Gene,
All those wonderful features crammed into such a tiny package. Even shutter lag seems to have been conquereded - almost.
But no optical viewfinder! Pity.

Gene. Very similar to the Panasonic (7 mp) I got my wife. She's not sure she likes it yet so we haven sold the Canon A80. The Canon has a viewfinder.

Gene, All those wonderful features crammed into such a tiny package. Even shutter lag seems to have been conquereded - almost. But no optical viewfinder! Pity. Mickey Mickey, no big deal. It's accepted practice to put this on a tripod, slip a black hood over the back, duck underneath, and use it as a baby view camera... Gene
