I was shooting pictures for my daughter's play at school (Grease)and caught this young lady just having a little "quiet time" during rehersal. I liked the look (but not the eye-brow ring) Technically not the best and not even taken with a particularly good camera but it was what I had at the time. Zoom lens 55-200mm IIRC. Comments?

I see kids with onamental piercings all day where I work. These kids have eyebrow rings, nose rings and decorations, chains from the nose to the ear, big things on their tongues and lips, big garish tatoos...sheesh. My Mom raised cain with me cause I had sideburns and a goatee! To me some of this stuff is self mutilation. Some day these kids are gonna have to explain their blotches and holes to their grandchildren.

What a shame that such a pretty little girl would think sticking objects through her eyebrow made her somehow more appealing! I've never been able to figure out the whole body-piercing thing...it took me long enough to get over women (outside the circus freak shows) with tattoos!

Well I have my ears pierced but I agree that these facial piercings don't look very attractive. I expect the youngsters think were just old fashioned.

My mother told me when I was around 15 that I could have a tattoo when I was old enough to make up my own mind whether I wanted one.
I'm thinking about it.

I've never been able to figure out the whole body-piercing thing...it took me long enough to get over women (outside the circus freak shows) with tattoos! Um, I'm a fairly normal 40 something female, never worked for the circus, closest I've come to a freak show was working for a State school in Massachusetts a few years back..... And I put a lot of time in thinking about what I wanted, where I wanted it and getting over the squeamish part. Now I have 3 of them. One, a scene of a lone hiker standing on a cliff looking down into a river valley is on my left arm...that is for my love of hiking and the outdoors. The second is on my right calf and is done to look like a tear in the skin with woman's green eye with a single tear looking out. That one I'm not going to explain, lol. And then the third, is on my left calf and it is a rose and ribbon with true love written across it...that one I got when Bob moved up here. Bob seems to find them a little sexy, lol. Since moving here he's even gotton one of his own, an outline of the state of New Hampshire with a heart and my name in it. Though I have to admit, the crying eyeball one freaks one of my female coworkers out every time I wear a shorter skirt because she thinks I'm giving her the evil eyeball ;D Sherri

Sherri: At least I did get over it! LOL! ;D My baby sister (55) even has one now, as do all three of my nieces -- and my daughter-in-law used to (she had it removed). But if you have body piercings (other than earrings) I'd rather not know! I'm still trying to come to terms with that!

Piercings???
Well I have one(in my left ear, if ya all know what that designates) but that is it. I once joked to Jeanneatte as to what she thought I would look with a nose ring and her reply was..."Only if it is a bull ring and I can hook a rope from it to the back of my wheel chair and lead you around".
BTW...I like the pic and the informality of it. The only thing I would do...and I do not know, of course, what perimeters you were dealing with...is cull the girl on the right. I do like the way heads were eliminated from the girls in the background in framing because it makes the main subject really stand out, but does let the viewer know the other girls were also on a break. We get a bigger idea of the scenario than with just the one girl as the only subject.

Ron Here I was looking for comments on the picture and we got started on body piercings and tattoos! I don't know if the young lady in question has tattoos and that is probably more information than I want or need. I did try cropping the picture down but without resorting to PS I could not get what I thought was a better composition. It was obvious that there were more girls in the photo so I just left the partial figure. If it were posed, I could have done it differently but it was just a fleeting shot caught during the break. I had a good time working with the kids over the months leading up to the production. At first I am sure I came across as a "dirty old man" but we got to know each other and the kids started to expect pictures and would pose spontaneously. I did all the formal head and shoulders shots for the production (60 H&S shots are a bit boring to do!) and then took pictures throughout the production and play. I had a great time and I hope to be involved next year. Phil

You're right, Phil. Sorry about that. The whole tattoo/body piercing thing just kinda took over! As to the picture, I agree with Ron H (Karma) that it would be a bit stronger with a tighter crop on the right. Not eliminating that girl entirely...if it were me, I would crop right about the neckline of that person, so you still had the shoulder and arm to indicate there was someone there...but forcing the attention even stronger on your subject's face. I don't know what more there was on the left to interfere, but taking that much from the right and adding it to the left would get the young lady out of dead center of the frame, too....and make a stronger composition. Just my HO of, course.

Thanks all, I will go back to cropping it a bit more. It is rather central in the view and I do have a bad habit of doing that. I will try some other stuff and see if I can make it better. Phil
