Good morning folks,
I have a problem with the meter of a 1000 DTL I got for cleaning and sealing: as I recall the instructions (and Ron´s superb site), the meter will be switched on by pulling the wind lever, and will meter around when the lever is pressed forward. this meter seems to start metering when you switch it on, without having to press the lever. Is that ok, serviceable or neglectable? Addition: I can´t get the rewind lock button off. do I have to hold the sprocket wheels inside the camera, or am I just to stupid? It has left hand thread, I know...
see ya,
Philipp ;D

Philipp: It happens. Since parts don't exist any more, chances are any attempts at a fix will cause you more grief than it's worth. As long as you remember to shut the meter off by depressing the top of the film advance when you're not shooting, the battery should not run down too quickly. The rewind release should come off with a little pressure. It is a left-hand thread, as you say, so off is to the right. I helps if you have (or can rig) a tiny spanner wrench to fit the two miniscule holes they so conveniently put in it...but you shouldn't have to hold anything inside the camera to do it!

Ron,
I finally managed to get the screw off with bent paperclip and small pliers. Got it all fixed, the battery chamber came loose and turned slightly so that the switching lever couldn´t get in contact with the battery holder anymore. this particular camera must be a past-1973 one, for it has a separate metering switch, now it works again,, compared with several cds-metering zenit it is only half a stop off. Nice camera, though...think I must get one for me too. Now I am waiting for a Jon Goodman sealing kit, after that the DTL is ready to shoot again...too bad it is not mine..
see ya,
Philipp

OK so the Camera Collectors metering standard is now a Zenit,,,,,?
I'd trust the Mamiya! LOL

John,
that Zenit 130 is my personal benchmark. I had it calibrated last year, and it produces negatives that in my opinion are well balanced. My handheld Weimarlux CdS is on holiday in Italy with my brother-in law, so I had no other choice for a quick checkup.... You don´t have to get a "Zenit handheld-meter with picture-taking ability" if you don´t like.....
