Earlier this weekend, I took my Black Minolta XD-11 out of the display case and put a roll of film into it. As I went to advance the shutter to put the film further onto the take up reel I got a shock. No not an electrical shock, I pushed down on the shutte release and nothing happened. Sh*t I said, now what? I put another pair of batteries into it and nothing...nadda. I finally got ahold of Garry's Camera Repair and told him I told him it would advance on O and the shutter would fire, but no LED and no shutter on any other setting, "well that's the circuit board and it can't be repaired" he said. Soooo, I took the strap lugs off, put it in a zip lock bag, and put it in with the other sad little cameras. Tonight I went to put film in my Black X-370n and the same thing happened. Grrrrrr! Not again! I took out the batteries and put another pair in. As I did, I took an eraser and cleaned up the battery cover. It worked! Hmmmm...maybe we're onto something here. I put the other batteries in. It worked! Aha!!! I wonder what would happen if I did this to the XD-11? I got it out of that dark place and did the same...cleaned the battery cover and put the batteries in and IT WORKED!!! YAHOOOOOO!!! Moral of the story? Before you give up, try a few techniques and see what happens, it worked for me!

Collect cameras that don't need batteries!
Forget this Minolta stuff Randy - you need a nice Retina

Randy,
Glad your Minolta XD-11 is still working.
I often pick up mine just to handle it. Love the feel of that lizard skin covering I added.
The XD is such a user-friendly camer I can't get syched-up over any other SLR, by any company.

I'm thinking about putting cobra on mine as Morgan doesn't have the red ring mark lizard anymore...suggestions?

The other Moral of the story, of course, is not to take too much notice of what "experts" tell you. Be your own expert.

Randy, That "Redring" lizard would look great on either chrome or black XK cameras. Ask Morgan if he has something in a quantity too small to catalogue, that's how I got my reddish-brown and yellow skins.
