I have here a perfectly good looking Ikoflex Ia (854/16) that refuses to shoot! The shutter cocks, the film advance advances, the hood opens up to a very bright and clean viewfinder...but no matter what I do, the darn shutter release button WILL NOT GO DOWN! Aarrgghhhhh! I'm hoping there's a "trick" to this one, perhaps it MUST have film in it to work or some such thing, whatever, please tell me! If there isn't a trick, and the thing is just plain stuck, are there any recommendations (or warnings!) about doing corrective surgery on this model? I've done my share of minor work on Rollei, Yashica, and Mamiya TLR's, but I've never touched an Ikoflex. They're, well, a bit weird, so I'm skeptical. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Try pushing down on the frame counter with your thumb and rotating it CCW until the number "1" comes up in the window. It should then lock until the shutter is cocked and released. The double exposure interlock will then prevent the release from depressing again until the film counter is advanced to the number "2", etc.

I had already tried that, but I just went back to try it again...no good. The shutter release button just won't budge! Another point...the film counter actually won't lock at "1". You can turn right through all the numbers! So I think there's something mechanically wrong here, something slipped and refusing to go back where it belongs perhaps. Back to my other question...any comments or warnings regarding surgery on these?
