Crikey. This camera was recently 'gifted' to me by a friend. He obtained it from an RFF member who, let us say, was 'imaginative' in his attempt to re-cover the body. Still it's a nice Fed 5c with an excellent looking Industar I-61 L/N lens. The meter responds. I'll take it for a test drive asap to see if it all hangs together. I gotta admit, it's something else... Gene

I think it makes the camera look excellent...personalized...one step out from the norm. I have no problem with re-covered cameras. A camera in stock configuration from the factory is just like all the others...cookie cutter copies. But when you have one that has been re-covered...it's special!!!

You oughta pull that covering off and put some nice leather on it. The 5C is actually a pretty nice camera--closer to an M3 in design than any other FSU gear.

Ooh-er, Gene. Quite apart from the workmanship, or lack of it, I just couldn't live with a camera that colour. And what did the guy use to cover it? It looks like thin foam cut with blunt penknife. I agree with Wayne. Rip it off and put something decent on there. Sorry to disagree with you, Randy. The recovered 'creations' you've shown us were all superbly done, and if you like that sort of thing, fine. After all, they're your cameras, and it's a matter of what pleases you. If someone wants to paint their camera bright yellow or orange, fine. I might appreciate the workmanship if it's done well, but don't expect me to like it. I'm a bit Henry Ford-ish when it comes to camera covering - any colour so long as it's black. I can live with the dark grey of my T70 - now I've got used to it, but I still sometimes wish Canon had chosen black . PeterW

Peter - I can agree with you to a certain extent. Flat black gets a little boring though, and I've been a great admire of Randy's Technicolour efforts. All my cameras would be re-covered tomorrow if I could just get that white lizard to breed with the blue one!

LOL! Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Mickey, I can read your mind I will probably recover this cam even though I've never done that before. But for the time being, it's fun showing it around and getting the reactions. I must admit to astonishment when I first saw it. Despite its current wardrobe, it looks like a fun shooter. It handles well and, for an FSU RF, actually has FRAMELINES in the VF!! What a surprise. Whether or not they're accurate is another matter On a more conventional front, I received a very nice looking Kiev 4am today with Helios 103 lens. No funny colours ... Gene

Hi Gene, While I like 5C's and recovered cameras are as cool as stock if done properly, I'd need to side with Peter here. Looks amateur since the craft foam isn't cut very well and is too thick for a covering. Probably used the same foam I used for a background in this picture: Direct from Walmart's craft section.

Curt, I'll bet it's the same foam all right. Yes, this one is a bit over the top. I know the guy who covered it and discussed it with him. He's a little embarrassed. It was just something he tried -- his first skinning attempt -- and he intended to change it. But it sat on his shelf and as he got more active with other cameras, he decided this one had to go. Even he recommended I change it asap Gene
