I have always had a soft spot for a nice hood ornament.

Holy moley Phil!
What happened here - the shot is massive & so pixellated even I can see it with my totally inferior monitor. What file size & resolution did you post??

And the old cars from the 40's-60's sure had some nice ones. Not like the ones today that kids like to break off and put on a chain around their neck.

It is still big but it is easier to see now. I don't know how that happened. Phil

Hi Phil,
Copied it, dropped it into Word on an A4 landscape page and cut it down to 16%. Who knows what terrors these things have in store!
After that - nic pic. Was the car parked locally or at some sort of rally, and what manufacturer? Never seen that headstock before.

Finally got to see it all in one gulp, Phil. I had to right click, save it and drop it into Photoshop. It was worth it, though, nice picture - not all that easy to get a good shot of something shiny like that without losing detail.
My guess is that it might be a proprietary hood ornament. Don't know about the US but they were very popular in the UK at one time, until they were banned as a hazard should anyone be unfortunate enough to get hit by the front of your car.

Yes, Peter...
Same here in the US. And in additional, all hood ornaments must be 'breakaway'.

I believe it is either a Dodge or Plymouth - just a wild guess. Nice shot! Luke

Good observation Luke, I believe it was on an early 50's Plymouth. The car show is an annual "Walter P. Chrysler Car Show" that features MOPAR cars for all years - with emphasis on the 60's and 70's. Lots of neat Hemi's in attendance.
