Photos shot with Nikon F4 and my newly-acquired Vivitar Series 1 35-85mm f2.8 zoom. I really like this lens. Fuji 400 Pro film

Very nice Wayne. I like the switch # in that shot. It's an angle I'd never considered. Looks like that Series 1 is a definite keeper.

Wayne,
I also think the lens is going to be a user. Good color rendition and apparently rather sharp for details.
I have never owned a Vivitar, but understand the Series 1 models are their best.
Only once did I consider a Vivitar and that was back in the early 70's when I wanted a 200mm. The Vivitar seemed too sluggish and the Minolta MC was smooth.
At the time, the salesperson told me that the Minolta was better 'geared' whereas the Vivitar used more 'grease'.

Ron:
I heard the same thing back then and I suspect it was true. But the Series 1 seems to be a little different animal. New they commanded a premium price, usually almost as much as manufacturer's lenses. The build on this lens is awesome--in fact it probably is overbuilt--quite heavy. But I was raised to believe heave is good so it doesn't bother me.
I suspect that unless smaller size is really important, the 35-85 is going to be pretty much a penmanent fixture on my F4
