The picture is of a tromp l'oeil mural at the rear of the Gooderham Building at Front and Wellington Streets in Toronto. It is better known as Toronto's Flatiron Building as it is triangular in shape. It was built by George Gooderham of Gooderham & Worts Distillers in 1891, 10 years before New York City's Flatiron Building. It was completely restored in 1998 and is, today, Toronto's most expensive office building. It was designated a historic site in 1975. The mural is a mirror image of the Perkins Building across the steet. It was painted by Derek Besant and was restored several years ago. Strangely enough the mural is owned by the city of Toronto which holds title to the outside of the wall on which it is painted. Only three of the windows. the dark ones are real. The building has only had 4 owners, including the present one, since its construction. The building is owned by my son and his partners as of about one month ago, hence my interest. Also as a former title searcher I have an interest in Toronto's historic sites. I have been promised a tour. Try Google for some quite good pictures and histories.
