Beautiful area you live in there unclebill. Nice work, hope you still had some time left for turkey. There's a reason I weigh 250+ you know, MMMM turkey and gravy.

Nice shots!!! I especially like the composition in #1. So many of us stand in the middle of the road and shoot. Your variance is great!

Bill,
Lovely pictures. I am a sucker for old buildings. Did you use a polarizer? That farm scene says "Southern Ontario".

Nice photos of your area. Would #1 and #4 be the ones taken with the 50mm?

excellent shots, Bill. I like 1 and 4 the best. 2 nad 3 seem to have too much polarizer, for my tastes

Well, to answer to questions and observations, I did not use any polariser that day. It all came to lighting. The only shot I used a 50 was the bottom one. The rest were the results of my new to me Nikkor 24 f2.8 and that is a really fun lens to work with.
I live in Oakville with is capital S suburbia and this was an hours drive away.

Thanks for the reply. I had my doubts about #1 being a 50mm shot so I guess I was fooled. The lack of use of a polarizer was a bit of a surprise too. I do recall reading that a certain part of the sky can be naturally that kind of deep blue. If I remember right it would be facing north and low down on the horizon. Was that the case in your #2 and #3 shots?

Bob,
I did not use a polariser at all that day. It was a perfect fall day and it feels like a long time ago with all the rain falling in the last few weeks.

Bob,
I think you will find the sky is its deepest blue at 90 degrees from the sun.

Maybe I didn't say it well enough. Yes, I understand you did not use a polarizer. I just thought that I remember that you can get those rich dark blues without one if you shot towards a certain section of the sky lower down to the horizon.
Mickey
I think you got what I meant and if you are correct that direction for us here would be facing north.

Bob and Bill,
I should have said 90 degrees on either side of the sun. So that gives you north(erly) and south(erly).
That deep blue sky is also a good substitute for an 18% grey card.

Alright, puzzle solved. I'll have to remember the grey card substitute bit, thanks.
