Dear fellow camera collectors, I took the picture below (it is cropped to reduce the black bar on the lower edge) last week. I got up very early (5:15) and hiked 850m up to the top of my favourite mountain peak, Breitenstein - I know the place pretty well, so walking with flashlite was no problem. I just was a bit late and needed to hurry - and I was totally groggy when arriving on top. I messed a few exposures, but a few others came out quite good... But see Yourself: Sunrise over the Kaisergebirge Technically this was taken with a MC Rokkor 1.8/35 on my (black) XD-7 loaded with Fuji Velvia 50. Direct scan from the slide, a wee bit Photoshop (mainly curves, virtually no sharpening required). Best regards Peter

Hey Peter!
Very nice indeed. But what's all this about hopping out of bed at a time that only happens to other people, then running up a 2500ft peak?
Too energetic for me I'm afraid. I'll wait until sunrise comes at a civilised time, and poke my camera out of the window thanks!!
Regards - John

A man after my own heart. Good to see another early riser amongst these late sleepers.

Friends, I have to admit, that getting up that early is against my nature (and usual habits). But for a good photo or hiking tour... Here's another one of the same series: Best regards Peter PS: it is a 5000ft peak, the valley is at 2500ft. That makes pretty clear weather conditions. All the dust and pollutions is way below.

Just proves the old saying that the early bird gets the worm or more precisely the photo. I guess that is why I don't have too many worms or photos of sunrises. The effort to get these was well worth it. Thanks for the views.

Peter: Nice shots. I never get tired of good "sunrise" or "sunset" images. I'm up by 6:30 most weekday mornings....but most mornings I'm on an ugly concrete or asphalt highway with thousands of other commuters, and the sun is rising over an office building, warehouse or shopping mall -- not something I personally care to waste my film on, even if I wasn't moving at 70 mph! There is one particular spot on the expressway that catches my eye every morning...every sunny one, at least. It's near a major curve in the road, just before an overpass entrance going the other direction, where the median widens considerably. The foliage in the center is actually quite striking in the fall, and the tall grasses catch the early light in a spectacular fashion. Again, it's impossible to shoot while moving, and the traffic is so bad I've never had the courage to try pulling onto the shoulder to set up my tripod! So...I get some vicarious pleasure viewing your neat sunrise shots!
