It has been a cool and wet fall here with some people in a rush to get to the winter season. Shot with a Leica IIIc and either a Summitar or ID61 on Porta 160NC Bob Summitar ID 61

Our leaves have hardly begun to change yet, and we are still having temps in the 80s.

Same here. Warm fall...in the 80s again today. Little rain. Little color change so far.

BTW -- Love that tree in shot #2. Is that a birch?

You guys crack me up, is that normal for your area to be in the 80s this time of year or is it an exceptionally warm fall? It can get that warm here but not for long periods. Thanks Ron, I think it is a Birch or possibly a Poplar. I don't know much about trees though.

Definitely a Birch tree Bob. Two whacks with a Tamarack switch for not recognising this, LOL.

I thought it looked like a birch tree, but my knowledge of flora (or rather, my missing knowledge) is legendary in our household!

Bob,
Lovely photos. I particularly like No. 3 with the evergreens poking up above the deciduous trees.
Here in Southern Ontario the leaves are turning earlier than usual. I have been told it is due to the stress of our extremely low rainfall this year. Some of the trees that I have watched year after year seem less brilliant this time around.
By the way, shouldn't those skiers be on the other side of the road, facing the traffic?

I like the 3rd picture but what are those boys doing in the fourth picture? Looks like skiing on wheels.

Curt
Promises promises.
Mickey
The fall change of colour has been really late this year in some parts. I think they are regarded similarly to bikes and must travel with the traffic.
Rachel
Those fellows can't wait for winter to go cross country skiing so they do this dry land routine to keep in shape. We are a little strange here, we also drag race snow machines in the summer with the aid of wheeled skies.

Rachel,
Furthermore, there are groups here called Polar Bear Clubs who love to cut holes in the ice on the lakes and go for a swim in midwinter.
See what you are missing in staid old UK.

Friday is only to get into the mid-70's and more of the same Saturday. I took three rolls of B&W film in August and haven't been able to develope them because the cold water is still 74 degrees at the lowest. Maybe next week after a few nights in the 50's. It's almost time for the annual swarm of your compatriots to come flying down I-75 on their way to Florida. I guess some of them spend the Winter there. Don't blame them either: I'm not a fan of snow any more. Walker

I love the photo of the birch. We have people that go by on their wheeled cross country ski kits, lol, seems perfectly normal. Also people that jump into the Atlantic Ocean to celebrate New Years. And even drag racing on grass with snowmobiles seems normal to me, lol... What I really don't get, though...is skimming. You know, building up speed with your skidoo so that you can make it over a section of open water. If you miss the edge, do you have to wait for spring thaw for them to dredge your machine out? ?

Walker
Never a problem getting cold water here even at the height of summer that is cold enough to develop with, at least I have been told. There should be even bigger swarms headed your way this year with the dollars being at par.

Mickey That wheel skiing looks like hard work. Ella & Mickey, here in the staid old UK we also have people who go for a dip in the sea in mid-winter.
