This seems to be the week for flowers. Shot these daffodils during a walk around my father-in-laws farm over the weekend. I'm delighted with the shot, because I was using my 500mm mirror lens on my Canon 300-D (DSLR), and these flowers were a LONG way off. Slight focusing problem is surely mine (these old eyes don't see as sharp as they used to).

Hi Ron, I like the way the daffs are caught in the sunlight and stand out against the dark background. Was this a handheld shot with the 500mm lens? If so, you've certainly got a steady hand. Any idea of the shutter speed?

Peter: My hand is not that steady! I had the camera on a tripod. The lens is f/8 fixed, ASA setting 200, so the shutter speed was about 1/125. The ground toward the flowers rises quite a bit from where I was standing, which is why it looks like I was shooting them at a low angle. There are the beginnings of some heavy woods behind. The daffodils were in the only spot in the area that was in direct sunlight. They're not in a flower bed, just growing wild in the grass near the woods. With the light hitting them the way it did, they caught my eye from a long way off, and I shot them just to see what the mirror lens would do (I've never had a lot of success with it). I had been trying to shoot pictures of some wild turkeys I spotted in the area, but after waiting around for more than an hour, I decided they were never going to come out of the woods while I was there...and it was just too shadowy in the woods to make a decent shot. I would not even have had the lens with me, if there had not been a discussion about mirror lenses several weeks ago on the Board!

Ron,
"(I've never had a lot of success with it)." You have now. What are they looking at?

Great shot, Ron. I have noticed that the lighter or more highlighted the background is the more pronounced the donut rings

Thanks. Like my father was fond of saying, "Every once in a while even a blind squirrel finds an acorn." Guess it was finally my turn.
