Really nice DOF effects in both Gene.
Over here we call them catkins. They are actually flowers - you got a lady and a gent by the looks of things !

John: You know more about birch pods...er flowers....er whatever than I'll ever know. Our 3-year-old grandaughter calls 'em "caterpillers." Do you have to lift up their tails to determine their sex?
