The last shot I posted of the Iris with mountains in the background (Gore Range?) was taken while out looking for this plant... I am working with others to monitor the status of a few populations in the Kremmling area. It's an endangered endemic & heavy ATV use seems to be threatening it's survival Peter

Unfortunately bikes and ATVs ARE making a nasty mess of many nature spots. All we photogs can do for the environment on a proactive basis is welcome, rather than just documenting the way it was before the onslaught.

There seem to be quite a few clumps in the picture, but it's a bit difficult to make them out as the sky is quite powerful. Did you get a shot with them against a darker backdrop to make them stand out?
Never seen these before - are they one of those plants that live in the desert and blossom quickly as soon as it rains?
Like the skyline in the photo.

Better on a different monitor Peter - what does the tag in front of the main clump signify?

The image host seems to be down at the moment, but I wanted to answer John's question... We have set up permanent plots in multiple locations & marked each plant in the plot with a numbered tag. This is so we can follow each individual's growth, flowering, & fruiting from year to year. This is the second year of monitoring and we plan to continue this project indefinitely.
Cheers!
Peter
