These three shots were taken during our vacation in June, with my Canon 300-D DSLR, using a Canon 18-55mm lens (the equivalent of a 28-88mm film SLR lens). A shot from the hillside, looking back at the ancient walled city and port of Dubrovnik, in Croatia. Inside the walled city, looking toward the old Rectors Palace, which is now a museum. The Placa, the main urban street in the old city. There are a great many tiny little streets that intersect the Placa. Many restaurants, homes, shops, no cars. There are also a rather annoying abundance of pigeons and seagulls.

Thanks, Bob. It was hot that day...in the 90s...and VERY humid. It looked hazy everywhere, and shows up on images as a kind of mist. Believe me, a "mist" would have been wonderful. Most of the shops and restaurants were NOT air-conditioned! The ones that were, had these little tiny portable units, that basically kept only the shopowners cash register area tolerable. Oh, the things we take for granted here! BTW -- I spoke to one of the local shopowners, and asked about the orange rooftops...particularly mentioning how they were so uniform. He said a great many of them in the whole area were not original, but new -- having been replaced following an earthquake in 1966! I guess when you're talking about a city that can be traced to at least the 7th century, 40 years ago is "new"!

Thanks for the explanation of both the haze and the orange roofs....I was very curious about the orange-LOL. But you know what it sure makes the photo very interesting, doesn't it? ;D
