I took a long, brisk walk today, partly as part of my cardio workout and partly to work off the excess turkey and gravy from Christmas Day. It was raining lightly at first with a thick cloud cover, then the sun broke through a little over the lake. I carry a little digicam peashooter with me in case I see something like this. I like it, and not overexposed either, no burnt highlight patch in the sky. My Canon digitals (G5 and 20D) tend to overexpose and I now have them permanently set at one stop down. And my son says his digital Nikon SLR is the same. This could be one reason why some are disappointed with digital cameras, it's easily rectified if the camera allows exposure compensation.

I took a long, brisk walk today...... Gene Gene: I finally figured out how you are so consistent in getting these marvelous shots! The secret was right there in front of us all this time..."I took a long, brisk walk today...." Walking gives you time to look about, and your wonderful "eye" has time to actually "see" what's going on. I always have a camera with me, but I tend to go from place-to-place sitting in my car...not the same thing. I see things that would make lovely shots -- if I wasn't moving at 50mph+!! I may have to make it my New Year's resolution to get out and walk more. My wife would love it, since she's after me to lose some weight anyway!

Sid, thanks kindly. I generally keep my digicams set at -2/3 exp comp and keep an eye on the histograms.
Ron, yes indeed. I walk around the harbour almost daily and invariably have a camera with me. It means I can stop any time I see something that catches my eye. My cardiologist says walking is one of the best exercises.
