Did my first shooting since the cardio procedure. Walked around the house a bit to test a 'new' Nikkor 180mm f/2.8 lens I bought on eBay. Even on a dSLR, I still prefer to use manual-focus primes most of the time. D200, Nikkor 180/2.8 Gene

Gene: It all gets back to what I said about "having an eye" for these things. You most certainly do. I could walk around my wife's hosta plants all day, and seldom even think of an image like you just showed us...or pull it off as nicely, if I did! You are going to publish that book, aren't you?

Good to see that you still have that unique way of seeing. Which model of Nikkor 180 are you are playing with?

Gene,
You have not lost your magic touch. I keep looking at things the way I imagine you look at them but I just don't see what you see. There is such a vast difference between merely "looking" and really "seeing". I suppose some more years of practice might help me.

Ron Head, Ron Herron, Bob, Mickey, thank you kindly for your encouragement. It felt so good to hold a camera again even if just walking around the yard.
Bob, I'm using the Nikkor AI-S 180mm f/2.8 manual focus. Whether that has submodels I'm not sure, but the photographer who sold it to me said he was reluctant to part with it as it was one of the sharpest Nikon lenses he'd owned, but he was going all AF. It's large but not as heavy as I anticipated and can be used handheld, though I think a tripod or monopod would be much better for this lens. I was too lazy to set mine up.
Gotta say, I'm feeling marvellous. How lucky to live in this age when ticker problems are something we really know how to fix. Kudos to modern medicine!

I too have got the old milk bottle 180 2.8 ED ais lens and would also be reluctant to part with it. You might find the TC16A teleconverter an interesting accessory for that lens if it will work with the D200. Yup, modern medicine is really marvelous.

Bob, that's it. I forgot to add the ED designation. I've not had a chance to use the new lens much, but it holds enormous promise.

I forgot to add that it is supposed to work very well with extension tubes too. I believe that it is a PN11a, but don't quote me on that, which has a tripod mount and allows rotating the lens around the axis.

Bob, I was wondering how it might do with an extension tube or two. Even a generic one might be fun.
