Spring is turning to summer Downunder. We took my sister-in-law on the traditional New Zealand camping trip over the weekend, to give her a taste of a traditional Southern Christmas activity before she returns to China in a couple of weeks. She took charge of the digital and made this image. It makes me laugh because it looks so much like a cliché car ad from the 60s or 70s. Substitute our wee Mazda with a Ford Cortina, Falcon, or whatever and it'd be perfect. Of course these days one doesn't associate basic 4 door saloons with the great outdoors, and the camping motif is now used to sell SUVs and campervans. Up the road a bit, we stopped at a very popular lookout point above one of the South Island's three major alpine (road) passes. Buses and campervans stop here every other minute, so imagine my surprise when a Chamois hops up the bluff right below us and nonchalantly (for a chamois) trots up the mountainside with only the odd glance in our direction. These tough little goats are prized by trophy hunters, so to see one so close is a rare treat.

Michael,
Very nice pictures. That part of New Zealand looks very much like Ontario - except for the chamois which, except for their colour, look very much like the white mountain goats of the Rockies.
People say chamois are very good for washing cars. Is that true? How do you train them?
