The f/1.5 maximum aperture would be rare...but $788? The Beatles had a line for it too -- "...a fool and his money..."

Ah ............... The rarity syndrome!
This is far, far, more complex Mickey than siimple stupidity.
There seem to be three factors at work to make something really valuable (I'll take the car analogy first):
Object must be seen to be trend setter on announcement & have a very short production life: e.g. Studebaker Avanti / Tucker
or: Be totally impractical in daily use: e.g. Any Motorama show car/Propeller driven cars
or be used a lot in adverts & Films of "trendies" going about their fashionable lives:
Tri Chevies Ferraris Astons - over here the humble Nash/Austin Metropolitan!
Any combination of the above enhances value.
So in the camera world? Well Zunow of course - much written about (SLR never available in the States). Nikon F killed it dead after two years.
See the price of:
Zunow SLRS ($12,000+)
Zunow 1.1 lenses ($2000+)
Zunow lensed Neoca cameras ($400+) - the Neoca lens version fetches a fraction of that!
Question - How can I make my exttensive collection of rare Montanus Roccas (yes they are - very - made just for two years) valuable?
Answer: Emphasise the desireability of their "Rose tinted" viewfinders. so why don't they move above $10?
Hope springs external ...................
Paul
